Telemedicine and apps
Elfriede is 75 and lives alone in her large country house. Although she is still very fit and active, she has recently been suffering from low blood pressure and fatigue. Until now, she has kept a detailed record of her pulse and blood pressure readings and shared her notes with her doctor. However, she is finding the written records of her increasingly frequent visits to the doctor more and more of a chore. Especially as she lives in the countryside and the journey to her GP’s surgery is relatively long.
A friend and former carer recommended the JAMES Tablet and Vital Sensors to her. The JAMES Tablet is a senior-friendly tablet designed for video calls and recording key health metrics. In combination with the Vital Sensors – a Bluetooth-enabled bathroom scales and blood pressure monitor – the JAMES Tablet functions as a digital health coach. The readings taken by the Vital Sensors are sent directly to the care centre, where they can be accessed at any time. Furthermore, the video call function enables online medical check-ups. Thanks to JAMES, the arduous journey Elfriede used to have to undertake for routine check-ups is now a thing of the past. Furthermore, the tablet reminds her to take important medication and is connected to the JAMES Care Centre, where nurse Michaela works.
At the Care Centre, Michaela monitors the vital signs of up to 50 elderly residents and contacts the resident concerned and their family if any readings are abnormal. So, if Elfriede’s blood pressure drops significantly, she and her relatives are notified immediately and consulted on how to proceed.

Elfriede’s cousin Peter also makes use of the JAMES health features. Peter wears the JAMES B6 emergency watch, which, in addition to providing a mobile home emergency call service, is designed to measure heart rate and blood pressure. As a nature lover, he goes for long walks and therefore checks his vital signs several times a day. The data collected is then sent directly to the JAMES app, where his son Gerhard can check on his father’s health.
