Digital impulses for care & support

Digitalisation as the new driver of the care sector

One in three people aged 65 and over lives alone. Since the mid-1980s, the number of single-family and single households has almost doubled - senior citizens in particular are increasingly living alone. According to Statistics Austria, almost four million private households were recorded in 2020 - of which 1,506,000 people lived alone. However, if this trend continues, it will have a massive impact on the quality of life and care of older people by 2030 at the latest.

How the Statistics Austria study and many other studies have shown that our society is undergoing demographic change. This will bring about a significant change in the population structure in the coming years. The retirement of the baby boomer generation, the trend towards single households and the decline in the birth rate will significantly exacerbate the situation in the care sector. As is well known, the care sector has been suffering from a shortage of certified specialists for years. In 2030 alone, a demand of around 100,000 carers is forecast for Austria. Of course, this estimate also means new career opportunities in a multifaceted professional field that moves people. Increasing digitalisation is making work in the nursing and care sector even more attractive.

Success with holistic care systems

Another solution for relieving the burden of everyday care and improving the quality of life of senior citizens is the JAMES Tableta special tablet that entertains older people using senior-friendly software and simple operation. The tablet serves as a holistic communication hub between professional and home care. Accordingly, the system brings professional care tools into the carer's home. Care organisations can provide carers and caregiving relatives with a professional care plan including instructions and video tutorials via the JAMES Tablet to the person being cared for. Both the plan and the content are tailored to the requirements of the person requiring care. Carers and relatives can also conveniently document daily tasks using a checklist in the tablet's care app. With the integration of further functionalities such as a family portal for better communication with relatives, the tablet is being further developed into a holistic service platform.

Digitalisation creates the future

Both professional care facilities and mobile carers as well as the large area of home care are required to provide ever higher quality. However, this fact should not be a deterrent to the care profession. The care workflow is becoming increasingly easier with the help of digital tools and offers professionals the opportunity to focus on the essentials - the person being cared for - while being able to respond to new challenges.
