When disoriented persons have a tendency to wander off, this is a particularly great challenge for the nursing staff. Very few facilities have a "secured" dementia unit and thus all doors are always open. Electronic monitoring of door exits is enormously expensive. A good solution to this problem is offered by the JAMES emergency call system.
Residents with a tendency to run away receive the inconspicuous JAMES emergency watch, which they wear permanently on their wrist. The watch has a SIM card and excellent tracking functions (GPS, WLAN). If there is no WLAN available in your facility, it is necessary to simply retrofit this with the JAMES Locator.

Active locating
The resident is not at the designated location at a certain time(e.g., in the dining room). The responsible caregiver can now actively query the position of the watch wearer using a PC/tablet/smartphone. The resident can then be retrieved.

Leaving the movement zone
For residents who should generally not leave the facility, a movement zone can very easily be created in the JAMES system. The zone has a minimum diameter of 100 meters.
If the watch wearer leaves this zone, the alarm is triggered after a few minutes. A predefined telephone number (or several if required) is called (e.g. the ward cell phone) and the nursing staff is informed that the resident has left. As described above, the person who has left can now be easily located and retrieval initiated.
